OUR BUFF AND WAX SERVICES - EXPLAINED

Initial Surface Cleaning

The buff and wax services from Elite Marine Protection are comprehensive packages, all designed to enhance and protect your boat from bow to stern thoroughly. It all starts with a detailed hand wash that gets every part of your boat meticulously cleaned, setting a good base for the rest of the services. Following the hand wash, we perform salt and algae decontamination to remove corrosive and unsightly residues that will degrade your boat's surfaces. Additionally, we take care of vinyl surfaces, which are cleaned and treated to prevent cracking and fading, ensuring they remain in excellent condition.

Surface Revitalization

We then take things a step further and dive into restoring your boat’s appearance. Our Buff and Wax and Classic New Boat packages feature a 2-step oxidation removal and polishing service. We aim to smooth out as many imperfections as possible and prepare these surfaces for the final touches. Water spot removal is another essential feature of this package, eliminating mineral deposits that can etch into the finish over time. We also polish all stainless steel and other metal fixtures, enhancing their shine and preventing oxidation. The teak deck cleaning and brightening process restores the natural beauty and resilience of the wood, making it a standout feature of your boat.

Inspection and Final Touches

This crucial step involves checking every nook and cranny of your boat to ensure that it has been properly cleaned and polished. Our team carefully inspects the hull, deck, windows, and other surfaces for any missed spots or imperfections. We also check for any potential issues such as scratches, dings, or fading paint that may require additional attention.

This thorough inspection is important for several reasons. First, it allows us to catch any missed areas during the buffing and waxing process so we can address them before returning your boat to you. This ensures that your boat will have a flawless finish and be ready for the water. Additionally, our inspection allows us to identify any potential problems that may require further maintenance or repairs. By catching these issues early on, we can save you time, money, and headaches down the road.

MYTHS ABOUT OUR BUFF AND WAX SERVICES

  • Myth 1: Wax is only for aesthetics

Many boat owners believe that wax is only used to make their vessel shine, but this is not entirely true. While wax does provide a glossy finish to the gel coat, it also serves a more critical purpose of protecting the boat's surface from the harsh elements of marine environments.

Wax creates a protective barrier between the gel coat and UV rays, water, and other environmental pollutants. It helps to prevent oxidation, fading or chalking of the paint, and can even reduce the growth of algae on the hull.

  • Myth 2: The buff and wax process can remove all types of damage from a boat’s surface

The marine buff and wax service we have at Elite Marine Protection is effective at removing many surface imperfections, such as light scratches, oxidization, and fading. However, there is a common misconception that this service can fix all types of surface damage done to your boat, including deep gouges or structural issues. While buffing and waxing can significantly enhance the appearance of your boat and protect it from future damage, they are not a cure-all for deeper structural problems. We feel it is important for boat owners to have realistic expectations about what surface treatment can achieve.

  • Myth 3: You only need to wax once a year

Some boat owners believe that buffing their vessel once a year is enough to maintain its shine and protect it from damage. This is not entirely accurate as regular buffing should be done at least twice a year, especially for boats that are frequently used or stored in harsh environments.

Buffing removes the outer layer of gel coat, which can become damaged over time due to exposure to UV rays and saltwater. This process smooths out any imperfections and restores the shine of the gel coat. Neglecting regular buffing can lead to more costly repairs in the future.
